The Early Years Intervention program is designed for pre-kindergarten children with disabilities. The program provides opportunities for children to engage in a fun and stimulating learning environment with their parent or carer in a relaxed and supportive atmosphere.
Sessions are held weekly during the school term.
Session 1 - Tuesday 9.30am - 11.00am
An additional session will be added if required.
Our Early Years Intervention program is based on evidence-based research and practice, that play-based learning is an essential component for development and learning in young children. We base our decisions on the Early Years Learning Framework used in all early childhood settings, ensuring we meet the National Quality Standards (NQS - benchmark set for early childhood education).
We provide an engaging and stimulating play environment encouraging independence and participation. Our program is child-responsive and based on individual children’s interests, development and learning needs.
The program focuses on early intervention in communication, social skills, sensory learning, and physical motor skills. The sessions include a regular routine that includes guided play, singing, story telling, and outdoor play.
The learning experiences vary each week and focus on sensory and imaginative play. Interactions with the teaching staff encourage social skills and emotional competencies. Communication and language skills are reinforced through Alternative Augmentative Communication (AAC) strategies designed for children who are pre-verbal including Pragmatic Organisation Dynamic Display (PODD).
We deliver a relaxed and flexible program to meet the specific needs of your child however we do have several expectations that we would appreciate your support with. We will supply a school hat for your child to wear when they attend the program and they are expected to wear this during outdoor play.
We also ask that all children remain seated when eating. As soon as your child finishes eating they can go and play. The last but most important expectation is that you and your child will find the program an enjoyable and fun experience so we welcome feedback and suggestions.
Pre-kindergarten children are 3 years old, turning 4 during the pre-kindergarten year. The program is designed for children who have a disability although formal diagnosis is not required. Preference is reserved for families living closest to Joondalup Education Support Centre who intend to enrol for their kindergarten year.
Our pre-kindergarten program runs for the entire school year.
Terms 3 & 4 focus on a transition to kindergarten.
